A wildfire burning west of Yosemite National Park doubled in size overnight while crews scrambled to set up defenses around nearby homes, officials said. 
A couple in Blythe, California, filmed this wildfire along the Colorado River. The extreme heat from the wildfire created a vortex known as a firenado. As the firenado spun off across the water it turned into a water spout.
Hawaii officials say molten rock crashed through the roof of a tour boat off the Big Island, injuring 23 people. The U.S. Geological Survey says explosions of varying sizes happen whenever 2,000-degree lava enters much colder seawater. Hawaii officials say a woman in her 20s was transported to Honolulu in serious condition with a broken thigh bone. Twenty-two others were treated for minor burns and scrapes, including 12 who were treated and released from a Hilo hospital.
